Christ the Redeemer's restoration / A reforma do Cristo Redentor

The statue of Christ the Redeemer has been restored and because of this it is all involved for a metallic structure, which will be only taken out next June. Workers try hard to finish their job in time in order to give back to Rio its most famous icon that has been on the top of Corcovado Mountain for 78 years! As can be seen on the photos below, the statue is a kind of huge mosaic made of about 1,5 million of small pieces of “pedra sabão”, a kind of typical Brazilian stone. Many tourists get frustrated when arriving there, but they should have in mind that all monuments around the world need maintenance from time to time. Anyway, all complains are minimized by the breathtaking view of the city!

Wow I had no idea it was so intricate close up with all those mosaic pieces - no wonder it takes time to restore - what an incredible treasure!

Hi Paul, my dear friend! Neither do I! If I haven't seen these pics by myself, I would never imagined how the staute is made of! Yes, it's our treasure, always praying for us!

Hi Tim, welcome here and thanks for visiting! Yes, and what's more, the view is not involved in any metallic structure!

Of course course one day you will be there, and when this day arrive, be my guest in Rio!!!

Both views must be amazing: being in the city and looking up at that huge figure on the edge of a mountain; and being on the mountain looking down on the bright lights of Rio.

Exactly Nothinprofound! And you know what else is interesting? From many places in the city we can see the statue and from the top of the mountain we can see almost the entire city! They are meant to belong one to another!!! And both of them belong to us!
