Nativity Scenes Festival

I love nativity scenes and this year they are spread all over the city in beautiful works made of recycled materials. The artists are in a competition - Nativity Scenes Festival - to elect the best one. The initiative is supported by the City Hall together with some private associations. Below you can see some of them.

E adoro presépios e este ano eles estão espalhados por vários lugares da cidade em lindos trabalhos feitos de materiais reciclados. Os artistas estão numa competição - Festival de Presépios - para eleger o mais bonito. Esta é uma bela iniciativa da prefeitura com algumas associações privadas. Veja algumas destas obras abaixo:  

Merry Christmas!!! / Feliz Natal

Yes, I completely disappeared for a while… so many things have happened these days… my city was facing a real war… I was worried and I had nothing to say. What could I say if my blog talks about good points of my city, and at that time there was nothing to say? I was sad, depressed, with no desire to think or write. But fortunately, the scenario started changing, the Christmas atmosphere is everywhere, a new era arrived for my city, after almost 30 years of total submission (and complicity, in many cases) of ours politicians to this absurd status quo. So, it’s not late to celebrate life, freedom, happiness, justice and hope! Merry Christmas and a New Year full of enchantment and peace for all of us!!!

É, eu sumi completamente por um bom tempo...tantas coisas aconteceram estes dias... a minha cidade viveu uma verdadeira guerra... além de preocupada, eu não tinha nada a dizer. E o quê eu poderia dizer se o meu blog fala de coisas positivas do Rio e naquele momento não havia nada de bom a ser dito? Eu estava triste e deprimida, sem vontade de pensar, muito menos de escrever. Mas, felizmente, o cenário começou a mudar , o clima do Natal está em todo o lugar, uma nova era chegou para a cidade, depois de quase 30 anos de total submissão (e cumplicidade, muitas vezes) dos nossos políticos com este absurdo e inadimissível status quo. Assim, nunca é tarde para celebrar a vida, a liberdade, a alegria, a justiça e a esperança! Feliz Natal e um Ano Novo cheio de encantamento e paz para todos nós!!!

The 15th Gay Parade

Last Sunday the 15^th Gay Parade took place at Copacabana Beach, with almost 1 million of participants! The event, considered the 5^th biggest one in the world, was organized again by the Arco-Íris (rainbow) Group, one of the pioneers in the fight for the gays, lesbians, travesties and transsexuals’ rights. It had also the support of the Municipal Government. The parade had the main purpose of demanding the approval of the law 122/06 that will consider as crime all kinds of discrimination and prejudice against homosexuals. The project is being studied by the Senate, but it is suffering a great resistance from some religious sectors. On the other hand, thanks God, Brazilians in general welcome people from different religions, beliefs, colors, nationalities, sexual orientations and even the fans of the different football teams!!!

Neste último domingo aconteceu a 15ª Parada do Orgulho Gay na praia de Copacabana, com quase 1 milhão de participantes! O evento, considerado o 5º maior do mundo, foi organizado mais uma vez pelo Grupo Arco-Íris, um dos pioneiros na luta a favor dos direitos dos gays, lésbicas, travestis e transexuais. O governo Municipal também deu o seu apoio. A parada teve como principal propósito a aprovação do projeto de lei 122/06 que vai considerar como crime todo tipo de descriminação e preconceito contra os homossexuais. O projeto está sendo estudado pelo Senado, mas tem sofrido uma grande resistência por parte de alguns setores religiosos. Por outro lado, graças a Deus, o povo brasileiro em geral dá boas-vindas às pessoas de diferentes religiões, crenças, cores, nacionalidades, orientações sexuais e até mesmo aos torcedores de diferentes times de futebol!!!
