Earth Hour 2010, next Saturday, 8:30pm: show support! / Hora do Planeta 2010, próximo sábado, 20:30: vamos apoiar!

Hi everybody! On March 27, at 8;30pm, let's turn out our lights, we can take a stand against climate change and global warming! Watch the two beautiful videos below to be inspired by this movement!

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with more than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbour Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome’s Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.In March 2009, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4000 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour 2009 the world’s largest global climate change initiative. Let's take responsibility by getting involved and leading the way towards a sustainable future. Let's join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common – our planet! We can make 2010 the biggest Earth Hour yet! It’s Showtime! Show the world what can be done!

É hora do show! Vamos mostrar ao mundo o que pode ser feito!

wow, I'm glad and surprised, they included my city which is Riga, Latvia in the first video. the people there are not very concerned about the climate change though, but we are not so big and our economy is so weak that we don't do much harm either :)
and we still have plenty of nature.
but it will change with the time. the economy and attitude to climate change. I hope the nature will stay.
anyway, you've got nice banners for the earth hour. better than mine :)

Hi 10000! Thanks for your comment! Now that I've just finished reading your post "Blogger" I could understand your avatar! You see, you wrote about my own feelings, desires, thoughts, and discoveries about www and social networks!

As South America for you, Europe for me is a huge problem...but i don't know why... Although the 45 different countries that have been visiting my blog, this is a misterious continent...

So, straight to the point: don't forget that I put my nice banners because of you! I'll see the video again to pay attention in your city. Have a nice Earth Hour next Saturday!

what do you mean with my avatar? the picture of the moth? it was pure accident that I chose it. I sometimes take pictures of insects if I see them and if I've got camera by the hand. I don't have a good macro camera though, and I'm not very enthusiastic about it, just when it happens it happens. it was actually one the worst of my insect pictures, but it's kinda funny a bit that's why I chose it. no hidden meaning or in fact no meaning at all :)
well, yeah they are showing Riga there for 1 second. they are showing our Monument of Freedom. and it's really not a big deal. it's just that i'm coming from the small country and everytime i see, my country mentioned somewhere I make a big deal of it. also because the public in Latvia really doesn't care about climate change, if you read the comments on the internet in Latvian portals you see that the majority laugh at it, that's another point why I was surprised. I myself live in London now and public opinion about these issues here is very different. When I go home and talk with the people I sometimes have to admit they are a bit backward in many aspects not just the climate change :) On the other hand we have plenty of good things, and most people there are really, really nice. in most cases it's about the information that hasn't been passed to them.
also strictly logically speaking there is nothing to wander about the fact they showing my country there, since Riga is one of the biggest cities in north eastern Europe, certainly bigger than Helsinki, which is shown before. It's really beautiful city indeed.
but does it really matter? as they they say in the video - it's not about the country you are coming from, it's about the planet :)

Hi 10000! Yes, you are right, many people don't care about climate change because they barely know what this means and how important is to be engaged in this cause...yes, it's about our planet: how it will be for the future generations. And something must be done, soon!

Yes Fazrul, please don't forget this time, be prepared! In my country people are talking about this on TV, newspapers, magazines, internet... I think that this movement is growing year after year, I hope that good solutions and ideas come up!!!
