Close to the Lapa Arches is the Lavradio Street, a place full of antique stores, bars, restaurants, life and history. There you can find the very ancient downtown of Rio de Janeiro city, with the authentic Colonial Portuguese architecture. Many old big houses look like the ones in Porto City and Lisbon, in Portugal, the Brazilian roots! In 1996 a group of antiquarians and shops’ owners decided to create the Lavradio Market and its success brought a project of restoration and reurbanization of the whole area. Since then, the market, which functions every first Saturday of each month, has been attracted many foreigners and locals to enjoy a real eclectic, colorful and amusing place to spend the day, buying antiques, souvenirs and touristic stuff, or eating delicious foods and drinks in agreeable restaurants that surround the street.

Hi June_Butterfly,
Thanks! Yes, you would spend the whole day perambulating from one shop to another! And when you got tired, you would stop for a meal with "caipirinha", our very famous drink made of squeezed lemon and "cachaça", also our famous distilled drink! Enough? :o)
Like your stories Vania and this is another great one.
Hi Robert! Thanks! Yes, my city has many histories to tell, especially nowadays when, more than never before, the past and the future are encountering each other in a very interesting way! Explaining: because of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and the 2016 Olympic Games, Rio has been passing through many restorations and improvements. Also new constructions, such as museums, aquarium, hotels, hostels, restaurants are being built. Old and historic places are being completely restored, such as the Municipal Theatre (my next post!), the Christ the Redeemer, the Lapa Arches, the whole port’s area (another next post!), etc.
Thanks, Jo! I visited you blog as well and i'm waiting your new blog!
