The correct Rio's Anniversary Day!!! O dia correto do aniversário do Rio!!!

Oh God, last month I made a huge mistake: on January 20^th I posted that it was the anniversary of Rio…but it wasn’t!!! From time to time me and other Cariocas experience this same confusion, forget the real date again and make this same mistake, and I don’t know why!!! So, last month we celebrate the day of our Patron Saint, San Sebastian only, and tomorrow, March 1^st, we will celebrate the 445^th anniversary of Rio de Janeiro! But no problem, it will be one more day to celebrate! So, again, happy anniversary Rio de Janeiro!!! Below is a very original homage for my beloved city, enjoy it!

Oh Deus, no mês passado eu cometi um erro enorme: no dia 20 eu postei que era o dia do aniversário da cidade...mas não era não!!! De tempos em tempos eu e outros cariocas fazemos esta mesma confusão, esquecemos a data certa e de novo cometemos este erro, e eu não sei porquê isto acontece!!! Assim, no mês passado nós celebramos apenas o dia do nosso patrono, São Sebastião, e amanhã, dia 1º de março, é que nós vamos celebrar o 445º aniversário do Rio de Janeiro! Mas não tem problema, será mais um dia para celebrar! Então, de novo, feliz aniversário Rio de Janeiro!!! Abaixo uma homenagem bem original para a minha amada cidade, divirta-se!

My Wonderful Portuguese Carnival!! / Meu maravilhoso Carnaval Português!!!

I’m back folks, after almost 3 weeks on holidays in Portugal (and I missed it already!). What a great place with so friendly people! I run away from a very hot summer in Brazil, mainly in Rio, and “enjoyed” a chilly winter in Europe! Both places never experienced such extreme temperatures before, and for me, more than weather changing, what really amazed me was to finally know my grandparents’ country and meet my real roots. It was a touching trip to my family’s past that guided me to the village where my grandfather was born, in the middle of the marvelous and distant Trás-os-Montes region. I had the privilege to go to the vineyards that produce Porto’s wine, in the Douro River, which for my great surprise, also produce Porto’s wine white that is delicious!!! Another interesting aspect was to see the Carnival there, which is completely different from ours! It’s curious that this huge and popular Brazilian party has its origin in Portugal, The countries celebrate it in a so different way! It's obvious that the high temperature in one and the low temperature in the other contribute for this. See below some photos from both places.

Estou de volta, depois de quase 3 semanas de férias em Portugal, e já chego com saudades de lá, ô terra boa com povo tão amável! Eu fugi do calor infernal do Brasil, principalmente do Rio, e fui “aproveitar” o frio da Europa. Ambos os lugares nunca experimentaram temperaturas tão extremas antes, e para mim, mais do que vivenciar diferenças climáticas, o que realmente me encantou foi finalmente conhecer a terra dos meus avós e encontrar minhas raízes. Foi uma emocionante viagem ao passado da minha família que me guiou até a aldeia onde meu avô nasceu, no meio da distante e maravilhosa região de Trás-os-Montes. Eu tive o privilégio de conhecer os vinhedos que produzem o Vinho do Porto e, para minha grande surpresa, também produzem Vinho do Porto branco, que é uma delícia! Outro aspecto interessante foi ver o Carnaval de lá, que é completamente diferente do nosso! É curioso que esta grande festa popular brasileira tenha a sua origem em Portugal, porque as comemorações são muito diferentes! Claro que a temperatura muito quente de um país e a muito fria de outro contribuem para isso. Veja abaixo algumas fotos dessa festa nos 2 lugares.

The funny Pre-Carnival! / O divertido Pré-Carnaval!

The Carnival will be only next week but the happiness is already in the air! Below some photos of Cariocas’ "blocos", a kind of street parade that precedes the Carnival. They usually occur during the day, mainly in the mornings, when whole families have fun together in a perfect harmony and joy!

What else can a human being desire? O que mais pode um ser humano querer?

Referring to the previous post, I would say that I want more than a sunny and hot summer day in a marvelous beach, I would like to have a normal summer! The weather in Rio and in the majority of Brazilian cities this year is completely crazy, with temperatures much higher than never before! The thermal sensation is about 50º Celsius, almost 10º degrees higher than usual. The sea water is also 8º higher! Can you imagine what these climate changes represent in our lives and in the Planet Earth life?

Sobre a postagem anterior, eu queria dizer que eu quero mais do que um dia de verão quente e ensolarado numa praia maravilhosa: eu queria ter um verão normal! O clima no Rio e na maioria das cidades brasileiras está completamente louco este ano, com temperaturas bem mais altas, como nunca sentidas antes! A sensação térmica beira os 50º, até 10º acima do normal. A água do mar também está 8º mais quente! Você pode imaginar o que isso representa nas nossas vidas e na vida do Planeta Terra?
