Eyjafallajokull: repeat it aloud! / Eyjafjallajokull: repita em voz alta!

As ash from Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull volcano have keept many areas of the European airspace shut down, affecting millions of travelers around the world, some government agencies and airlines clashed over the flight bans. Some restricted airspace is now beginning to open up and some limited flights are being allowed as airlines are pushing for the ability to judge safety conditions for themselves. The volcano continues to rumble and hurl ash skyward, if at a slightly diminished rate now, as the dispersing ash plume has dropped closer to the ground, and the World Health Organization has issued a health warning to Europeans with respiratory conditions. Como as cinzas do Vulcão Eyjafjallajokull, na Islândia, fecharam grande parte do espaço aéreo da Europa, afetando milhões de passageiros pelo mundo inteiro, alguns governos e companhias aéreas entraram em desacordo sobe a proibição de voos. Algumas áreas restritas começaram a ser reabertas e alguns voos limitados começam a ser permitidos agora, uma vez que as companhias aéreas pregam para si a habilidade de julgar as condições seguras para um voo. O vulcão continua, estrondosamente, a expelir e arremessar cinzas em direção aos céus, diminuindo um pouco sua ferocidade agora, mas as cinzas depositadas nos solos fizeram a Organização Mundial de Saúde questionam os europeus sobre as condições respiratórias. 23rd of April: Saint George's Day /23 de abril: Dia de São Jorge

Today is a holiday in Rio, is Saint George’s Day, the Warrior Saint. As we live in a catholic country we have many saints’ holidays! But this one is particularly special for me for two reasons: Saint George is my Protector Saint and today is also my niece’s birthday (happy birthday, Fê!). Saint George is also Portugal’s Patron Saint and because of this I posted some photos of his magnificent castle, which stays in a high hill in Lisbon, with a marvelous and panoramic view of the city and the Tejo River. Hoje é feriado no Rio, é Dia de São Jorge, o Santo Guerreiro. Como vivemos num país católico nós temos muitos feriados santos! Mas hoje é um feriado especial para mim por dois motivos: primeiro porque São Jorge é o meu Santo Protetor, segundo porque hoje é aniversário da minha sobrinha (feliz aniversário Fê!). São Jorge é também o Santo Padroeiro de Portugal, e por causa disso eu postei algumas fotos do seu magnífico castelo que fica no alto de uma colina, em Lisboa, com uma vista panorâmica maravilhosa da cidade e do rio Tejo. 19th of April: the Indians' Day / 19 de abril: Dia do Índio

19th of April, the Indian's Day, was created in 1943 to remind us when many Indian leaders of the Continent, in 1940, decided to take part in the First Inter-American Indian Congress that took place in Mexico. They boycotted the first days of the meeting because they thought that their claims wouldn’t be heard by “white men”. During the congress it was created the Inter-American Indian Institute, also settled in Mexico, which has the function of taking care of the Indians’ rights in America. Brazil didn’t adhere to the institute immediately, but after Marshal Rondon intervention, the Brazilian government joined the resolution and created the Indian's Day. 19 de abril, o Dia do Índio, foi criado em 1943 para relembrar o dia, em 1940, no qual várias lideranças indígenas do continente resolveram participar do Primeiro Congresso Indigenista Interamericano, realizado no México. Os índios haviam boicotado os dias iniciais do evento temendo que suas reivindicações não fossem ouvidas pelos "homens brancos". Durante o congresso foi criado o Instituto Indigenista Interamericano, também sediado no México, que tem como função zelar pelos direitos dos indígenas na América. O Brasil não aderiu imediatamente ao Instituto, mas após a intervenção do Marechal Rondon, apresentou a sua adesão e instituiu o Dia do Índio no dia 19 de abril. Botanical Garden again: the animals / Jardim Botânico de novo: os animais...

After viewing my last post I realize that even living so close to Botanical Garden, I was not enjoying this proximity enough, so I went there yesterday to a stroll along its alleys to see and feel all the green and calm that surround the place. In only one hour and a half that I spent there, see below what I saw!!!

Depois de ver meu último post eu percebi que, mesmo morando tão perto do Jardim Botânico, eu não estava aproveitando o suficiente esta proximidade, então eu fui lá ontem para um passeio através das suas alamedas para ver e sentir todo o verde e a quietude que cercam o parque. Em uma hora e meia que eu fiquei lá, veja abaixo o que eu vi!!!
